With a big engine and a carbon fiber body structure it was a fantastic performer. Top speed was 207 mph just 6 mph faster than the F40, but it carved 2.0 seconds off the 0-100 mph time at only 8.0 seconds, neck-wrenching acceleration.

Only 349 F50s built

Although the F50 was shown in prototype form in 1991, it was some time before it emerged as a production car and then only 349 were built. Of course, the design was changed a lot before it went into production, but some features are the same as on a Grand Prix car.

Inspired by the F40, the F50 was improved aerodynamically, and had its own looks. The fenders sweep rather lower than the center section of the body, and the headlamps sit behind plastic covers. New for Ferrari were the outlets from the radiator in the hood 30 years after Ford did it on the GT40.

There are long air intakes in the flanks of the car, and the neat tail is topped by a high-mounted spoiler. The whole car had a strong wedge line, and was designed to get the air away from beneath the car.

4.7 liter V-12 engine

The biggest change was that a standard Ferrari engine was modified for the F50, so the car was powered by a 4.7 liter V-12 65-degree engine developing no less than 513 bhp at 8,500 rpm! With an output of 109 bhp per liter, this was definitely like a racing car at that time. Maximum torque was delivered at 6,500 rpm, so despite the huge power output, you needed to keep the engine spinning to get the most out of it.

This was a highly advanced engine, with five valves per cylinder now found on the Ferrari V-8 engine in the 360 Modena and CS, but this was conceived a decade ago. The engine was coupled to a six-speed gearbox.

Ferrari moved on a long way from the F40 in the design of the F50, as the car is built around a carbon fiber composite tub just like the Grandprix cars. There is a tubular sub-frame at the front for the suspension pivots, but the engine is bolted directly to the rear of the tub. The rear suspension is carried on outriggers from the gearbox.

Inboard suspension units

Taking the Grand Prix image further, the spring/damper units are mounted inboard and operated from the wishbones by push rods. Also, the joints are all spherical metal-to-metal, to maintain the correct movement without the wander and wobble admittedly in small amounts that rubber joints give.

Dampers adjusted electronically

An innovation at the time was the use of electronically adjusted dampers, designed to maintain control in all conditions. Big Brembo brakes were fitted, but there was neither ABS nor even servo assistance. You had to press hard, and keep well aware of what was happening at the tires, but fortunately in a car like this, the steering and pedals give plenty of feedback. However, the steering was power assisted.

The F50 weighed only 2,900 lb (1,320 kg) so it had an excellent power to weight ratio, as you'd expect with such an advanced design. Overall, a magnificent car: it looks right, has masses of power, and the equipment to get it on the road quickly and cleanly. But you wouldn't expect silence or much comfort in such a near racer.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2106639633758324049.post-56142300578770643822021-04-04T00:19:00.026-07:002023-07-22T21:09:53.280-07:00 Pajero Sport Dakar 4×2 and 4×4 CKD

The CKD (Completely Knock Down) version of the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport continues to be developed by Mitsubishi Motor. After launching the Pajero Sport Ultimate as its first CKD variant in April 2017, Mitsubishi Motor officially launched the Pajero Sport Dakar 4×2 and Dakar 4×4 as the new CKD variants.

So that the new Mitsubishi Factory, now assembles 3 variants of the Pajero Sport. The sales of the Pajero Sport, which are increasingly impressive, surpassing the Toyota Fortuner, have enabled this Pajero Sport to be produced locally. Even Mitsubishi Motor has a vision to produce all variants of the Pajero Sport domestically in the future.

Mitsubishi took the opportunity to increase the Pajero Sport CKD feature from the difference in available production costs. So that Pajero Sport is getting richer in features and outperforming competitors. It is hoped that this large SUV will be more attractive to enthusiasts of the large 7-seater SUV.

Additional Features

Then what are the additional features of the Pajero Sport CKD that distinguish it from the CBU version?

Pajero Sport Dakar 4×2

Ultrasonic Mis-acceleration Mitigation System (UMS): holds the car's power for 5 seconds when the gas is stepped on while in the front there is a car or other object.

Cruise Control

Black Trim Interior with Piano Black Panel Design color

Center Door lock Button

Power Window Switch Illumination

Tailgate Spoiler.

Pajero Sport Dakar 4×4

Get a large array of safety features, namely:

Hill Descent Control (HDC)

Blind Spot Warning

Forward Collision Mitigation System (FCM)

7-SRS Airbag & Passenger Airbag Indicator

Multi Around View Monitor Display

Tailgate Spoiler

Center Door Lock Button

Power Window Switch Illumination.

Regarding the engine, the two variants of the Pajero Sport CKD are no different from the 4×2 Ultimate variant, namely the 2.400 cc MIVEC 4-cylinder diesel engine with turbocharger and inter cooler technology. The maximum power produced is 181 PS and peak torque of 430 Nm, which is connected to the drive wheels with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2106639633758324049.post-75882053010500423942021-03-09T02:03:00.007-08:002023-07-22T21:10:00.940-07:00Audi R8 V10, Four-Wheel Drive Coupled With Aluminum Frame And Racing Suspension

Seen in many a spy photo, the Audi R8 V10 takes the German marque up into the top of the supercar class, competing with Ferrari and Lamborghini, which of course is owned by Audi. However, the Audi looks so different from the Gallardo that the two cars will attract different buyers.

Not the lightest of supercars, despite its aluminum frame and body, the Audi R8 V10 is nevertheless a very fast car, with a top speed of 196 mph, and the ability to reach 60 mph in about 3.8 seconds under that 4 second barrier.

Audi R8 stylish teutonic design

The new model looks almost exactly the same as the existing R8, except for a few minor differences such as the use of LED headlamps and wisder side cooling vents. It has a rear diffuser and oval exhaust pipes. As on the V-8, the engine is visible through the rear window. Overall, the Audi R8 is still a sleek, purposeful design in the Teutonic mold. Spoiled a little by the black side panels which break up the flowing lines.

Inside you could be sitting in almost any other Audi. Plain leather, a wheel with a flat bottom section, and the usual plastic-looking fascia. However, there are a few extra features to distinguish this model.

Super V-10 engine with direct injection

Like the V-8, the new 90-degree V-10, similar to the Lamborghini unit, and to that used in turbo form in the RS6, is a direct injection unit, the direct injection liberating a little more power, and improving fuel consumption.

Power output is 525 bhp at 8,000 rpm and the red line is set at 8,700 rpm, so you get an engine designed for high revs, and not far removed from a racing engine. This is borne out by the fact that peak torque of 390 lb ft (530 Nm) is produced at 6,500 rpm. You will want to keep the engine spinning to see off the V-8, which produces its torque at a much lower speed.

Even so, thanks to the use of variable valve timing, the engine pulls smoothly and can run at low speeds. You won't be disappointed with this power unit, so long as you use the gears. It is a dry sump unit, so you will be able to indulge in track days, and this supercar is designed to comply with some sports car racing classes.

Six-speeds and four-wheel drive

In standard form, the engine is coupled to a six-speed manual gearbox, with the option of the sequential box with paddle controls, which works very well indeed. As on the R8, the Audi quattro four-wheel drive system is incorporated to give maximum grip in all conditions. Despite the larger engine, the weight distribution remains at 44 per cent front to 56 per cent rear, which is near ideal.

Audi R8 aluminum space frame

All this power is tucked into an aluminum space frame made from extrusions and castings which is a lot lighter than a steel structure would have been. The complete body and frame weighs only 463 lb (210 kg), which is not too bad at all.

Suspension is by double wishbones front and rear, and the power-assisted steering is hydraulic, despite the attractions of electric power on a mid-engined car. Audi claims that the car can be reach 1.2 g side force when cornering, which is well up to the mark.

Magneto-rheological dampers for better control

To improve the ride and handling balance, magneto-rheological dampers are used. These provide continuously variable damping.

In this system, the damper fluid contains minute magnetic particles. When a voltage is applied to these particles, they change the angles at which they lie, increasing resistance. This allows the damping to be set up to adjust to the contours of the road as it happens and also to iron out pitch and roll yet providing a good ride at lower speeds.

Big disc brakes, option of carbon ceramic

There are large 19-inch diameter wheels with double spoke alloy wheels. These are the same as on the V8. The brakes are pretty massive - 15-inch (380 mm) discs at the front with 8-pot calipers, and 14-inch (356 mm) discs at the rear with 4-pot calipers. There is an option of carbon ceramic discs, which reduce un-sprung weight by 20 lb (9 kg).

All this goes together to make an exciting supercar with very rapid performance, the quattro system giving plenty of cornering power and stability.

But what about the weight? The aluminum space frame with aluminum panels should result in low weight. However, the Audi R8 V10 weighs 463 lb (210 kg) more than the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4, which has four-wheel drive and which is a little smaller than the Audi. So this is not a lightweight supercar, but nor is it much overweight. Overall, with 525 bhp on tap, the Audi R8 V10 is a very exciting supercar.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2106639633758324049.post-53463276240983484042021-03-06T22:56:00.008-08:002023-07-22T21:10:07.419-07:00Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni

Here's a supercar that seems to break the Lamborghin mold: the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni has rear-wheel drive only, instead of the four-wheel drive on all the other models.

The reason is simple: the car is named after Valentino Balboni, who has been testing Lamborghinis since 1967, and who has been closely involved in the development of all Lamborghini cars for many years. It was Balboni who took me out in the Gallardo Superleggera prior to my road test in Italy, and who drove using every ounce of energy that every aspect of the car had, and with great spirit at all times.

Valentino Balboni, the great test driver, has just retired

Balboni officially retired recently, and what better tribute to a kind and quiet man who is still a formidably fast driver? Balboni's favorite car was the Miura, which of course was rear-drive, and so he developed a style of driving suitable for very fast rear-drive supercars, and no doubt felt a little cramped in the four-wheel drive models.

Even so, he was a very professional engineer, and took great care to set the cars up to give safety with enjoyment, with a bias toward understeer on low-speed corners, tending to neutral at higher speeds.

But what of the Gallardo LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni? It is powered by the latest 5.2 liter V-10, which develops 550 bhp at 8,000 rpm and 398 lb ft (540N m) torque at 6,500 rpm. Drive is taken rearward to the transaxle only of course, and in most respects the car is similar to the standard Gallardo, but differs in that the stability control is set up to give more over steer than normal, allowing drivers to hang the tail, and get more excitement from their driving.

Rear-view camera in this Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 special edition

There is the usual option of either the six-speed manual or the e-gear sequential gear sets in the transaxle, and there is also the usual option of steel or carbon ceramic discs, six-pot calipers sufficing with the carbon ceramic discs, but eight-pot calipers being specified for the steel discs.

One interesting and useful feature is a rear view camera, rear vision being pretty poor in all Gallardos.

Just a shade lighter than 4WD

This special version of the Gallardo only 250 are being built - has stripes over the top of the body and the seats to celebrate the style of the 70s, and despite a little less weight, is actually not quite as fast as the LP560-4 according to official figures, with a top speed of 199 mph, and a 0-60 mph time of about 3.8 seconds. It would be expected to be faster owing to the reduced losses in a two-wheel drive system rather than four-wheel drive.

Here is an interesting fact: the weight is quoted at 3,042 lb (1,380 kg) which is just 63 lb (30 kg) lighter than the four-wheel drive versions - a smaller difference that expected. It shows just how light the normal transmission components are. Lamborghini also states that the weight distribution is identical, at 47% front:53% rear. AN exciting car, but if you want one you will need to be quick.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2106639633758324049.post-59869572439058795842021-03-03T22:24:00.004-08:002023-07-22T21:10:15.674-07:00 Ignition System Functions

Many of today’s cars have a start/stop button to activate the ignition, reducing the problem of ignition failure, although certainly not completely. Whereas, most cars have an ignition switch with a tumbler, new cars require a simple push of the button to turn the car on and off.

Spark & Ignition

Regardless of whether you need a key to start your car or not, activating the ignition is the first step you’ll take to get your car started. The ignition ignites the fuel that is in the engine’s combustion chamber at the precise moment in the piston stroke to give your car power. Essentially, your engine mixes fuel and air and brings in a spark to create an explosion that starts your car.

Your ignition switch is just the beginning in a series of components that comprise your car’s ignition system and connects to the battery. The switch is connected to an ignition coil which is connected to a distributor, distributor cap, rotor, plug wires and spark plugs. Today’s cars use an engine control unit that controls ignition timing, fuel and other factors including idle speed.

Coils & Connections

A pair of coils, known as windings, work together to move electricity the primary coil makes the spark, the secondary coil forwards it to the distributor. A third wire is connected to the positive power source and is tasked with sending information across your car, enabling the other components to become activated.

The distributor is tasked with sending electricity to the spark plugs. It spins and connects to a rotor which also spins and reaches each point that sends the spark on through to the plug wire. Each of the contact points on the distributor cap are connected to a plug wire that sends the spark to the spark plug.

Ignition Control Module

Spark plugs are threaded into the cylinder head, with the ends of each plug found atop each cylinder. With the distributor’s lead, the intake valves bring in the precise amount of fuel vapor and air into the cylinder, that creates a spark that ignites the mixture and creates combustion. An ignition control module is a tiny computer that works with the distributor to regulate the ignition system. When this computer fails it is replaced as it isn’t a part that can be fixed.

What you see in the cabin with the ignition may be different, but once you get to its inner workings, an ignition system is nearly the same across all makes and models.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2106639633758324049.post-84535722131800249442021-02-22T23:35:00.003-08:002023-07-22T21:10:26.623-07:00All New Honda Brio Does Not Use A New Engine

The All New Honda Brio made its debut at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show or GIIAS 2018 in August. Of the many changes made, Honda still maintains the same engine as the previous model, the 1.2 liter i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine.

Even though the engine is the same as the previous model, performance and fuel efficiency problems continue. improved.

Every year Brio continues to develop machines. Even though it is the same, Brio continues to improve it to make it more powerful and fuel efficient. The new All New Honda Brio model has bigger dimensions, but the engine is claimed to be powerful and fuel efficient. for example, improvements were made to a single valve with an expansion in the valve ratio (exhaust delay) for better fuel consumption, i.e. reducing friction in every part of the engine.

The 1.2L i-VTEC engine, he added, also has an improved zigzag pattern on the piston structure for a lighter insertion process and has a slimmer cam chain, additional chain-tensioner and auto-tensioner belt, and uses quality oil to reduce friction.

Honda also reduced the amount of emissions by combining the exhaust manifold with the cylinder head, and placing the catalytic converter directly under the exhaust manifold. Its function is to improve cooling in the combustion chamber.

The combustion problem in the All New Honda Brio engine was also improved, using anti-oxidation spark plugs and a mixture of air and gasoline in the valve via a single valve system. This engine is capable of producing a maximum power of 190 PS at 6,000 rpm for manual and CVT transmissions. The torque is 110 Nm at 4,800 rpm.

Honda developed the i-VTEC technology with a single valve at a low rpm so that the engine will get one intake valve per cylinder. This method works to speed up the combustion process because air and fuel are better mixed, which in turn makes fuel consumption more efficient. Interestingly, the All New Honda Brio engine has two intakes and two exhaust valves per cylinder.

At low rpm, the All New Honda Brio engine uses one intake valve per cylinder, resulting in a faster combustion process to improve fuel efficiency. In the mid to high rpm range, valve idling occurs for smoother acceleration.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
